National Geographic Traveler Names Memphis ‘Best of the World’ Place to Visit in 2013

National Geographic Traveler has named Memphis a “Best of the World” destination to visit in 2013 in its December issue. Editors selected 20 diverse destinations from around the world including cities such as Kyoto, Japan and Jarash, Jordan.               

“There’s something newly eclectic in the air,” the magazine writes and credits attractions such as the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, Shelby Farms Park and Project Green Fork, a sustainable restaurant non-profit. The publication also spotlights the large amount of grassroots projects being pursued by locals, which compares to cities like New York or San Francisco.

“Memphis’ soul continues to shine with spotlights in national media like National Geographic Traveler,” said Kevin Kane, president and CEO of the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau. “It’s truly an honor to be featured among such eclectic cities, and we look forward to welcoming more visitors as a result of this feature.”

The publication includes a number of Memphis attractions and restaurants including The Peabody Memphis, Madison Hotel, National Civil Rights Museum, Central BBQ, Memphis in May International Festival, Graceland and Beale Street.
